Yesterday, you met the cast of "Raíz", this year's Day of the Dead celebration. Now we'd like to introduce you to the artists behind the scenes — all the folks who turn a play into a fully realized production!
Arturo Martinini (Director)
began his career at a very young age as actor, director and filmmaker. He has directed and toured with several
theater companies (performing works from Lorca, Pasolini, Shakespeare and
Barry), and has worked as an independent filmmaker for notable organizations in
Europe. Most recently he acted in Romeo Castellucci's latest work, Attore, il tuo nome non è esatto. The writings of Antonin Artaud are
lately his strongest influence regarding the relationship between the public
and the reality of the play. Raíz marks
both his Milagro and his U.S. directing debut.

varias compañías de teatro donde también realizo trabajo en dirección (realizando

Mark Haack (Scenic Designer)
returns to Miracle for his ninth show. Previous work here includes his Drammy
award-winning set for El Quijote, Boleros
for the Disnechanted, ¡Viva Don Juan!, Mariela in the Desert and Rosalba y los Llaveros, among others. He
designed Oregon Children’s Theatre world premiere of The Giver, which also won him a Drammy award for set design. Before
moving to Portland in 1992, Mark lived in New York where he designed and
assisted on dozens of Broadway and Off Broadway productions. He has also been
art director or production designer on numerous studio, independent and
made-for-TV films.
Mark Haack (Diseñador escenográfico) regresa a su noveno show en

Katelan Braymer (Lighting Designer) has been designing at Milagro since
2008. Recent designs include B'aktun 13, Duende De Lorca, 2009/10 La
Luna Nueva (Miracle Theatre Group), Choro
Chorpora (Liz Erber dance), Something’s
Got Ahold Of My Heart (Hand2Mouth) and Fiction
(Portland Playhouse). Assistant work includes My Mind Is Like An Open Meadow (Hand2Mouth) and ABACUS (Early Morning Opera). Katelan is
in her second season as an ALD at the LA Opera and has assisted on eight
productions with them.
Katelan Braymer (Diseño de Iluminación) ha trabajado en Milagro desde
el 2008. Sus diseños mas recientes son en las obras: B'aktun 13, Duende De Lorca, 2009/10 La Luna Nueva (Miracle Theatre Group), Choro Chorpora (Liz Erber dance), Something’s Got Ahold Of My Heart (Hand2Mouth) y Fiction
(Portland Playhouse). Su trabajo como

Carolyn Baker (Costume
Designer) is a recent graduate of Oregon State University where she received a bachelor’s
degree in apparel design. Although she
has designed costumes and apparel for various festivals and has shown her work
on the runway both at her University and at conventions, this is her theatrical
debut in costuming. She enjoys attending
local theater productions and spends her free time learning new ways to upcycle
apparel.
Carolyn Baker (Diseño de vestuario) se graduó recientemente de Oregón
State University con una licenciatura en diseño de vestuario. Aunque ya ha
diseñado para diferentes festivales y ha
presentado sus prendas en desfiles para las convenciones y su universidad, este
es su debut en vestuario teatral. Carolyn disfruta de asistir a producciones de
teatro locales y pasa su tiempo libre aprendiendo nuevas formas de reusar
prendas de vestir.
Gerardo Calderón (Composer),
is the Musical Director of Grupo Condor and Nuestro Canto, studied classical
guitar at the Escuela Superior de Musica in Mexico City and music theory at the
Portland Community College. As a professional musician, Gerardo has pursued
traditional Mexican music, Latin American folk music and pre-Columbian music by
performing with folk ensembles in Mexico, Canada, New England and the Pacific
Northwest. Gerardo also makes custom panflutes, rain-sticks, water drums,
bombos (bass drum), and his own creation the “Turtle Box”. His recent work at
Miracle includes Jardín de sueños, The
Shrunken Head of Pancho Villa and ¡Viva
la Revolución!. Gerardo is currently studying Music Therapy at Marylhurst
University.
Gerardo Calderón (Compositor), es el director musical del Grupo Cóndor y Canto Nuestro. Estudió guitarra clásica en la Escuela Superior de
Música en la Ciudad de México y teoría musical en Portland Community College.
Como músico profesional, Gerardo ha buscado ejercer su conocimiento en la
música mexicana, la música latina y música pre-Colombina tocando en grupos
folklóricos en México, Canadá, noreste y el noroeste de los Estado Unidos. Gerardo
también construye flautas Latino Americanas, palos de lluvia, tambores de agua,
bombos y su propia creación de “la Tortuga Cajón”. Su más reciente trabajo en
Milagro incluye las obras: Jardín de sueños,
The Shrunken Head of Pancho Villa y ¡Viva la Revolución!. Gerardo actualmente estudia musicoterapia en
Marylhurst University.
Kelly Carlos (Choreographer) delved into the art of dancing as a young
girl. Her travels through Argentina,
Peru, Brazil and India opened her path to folk, indigenous and traditional
dance forms. Returning to the United
States, Kelly met her husband, Jose Carlos, who is a captain of Danza
Azteca. For the past eight years they
have focused on teaching the dance traditions of Anahuac to families throughout
Oregon. Kelly and her family believe in
the divine, innate strength of every human being, which can be fostered through
dance, regardless of one’s religion, race or color.
Kelly Carlos (Coreógrafa) se sumergió en el arte de la danza cuando
era una niña. Sus viajes a Argentina, Perú, India y Brasil le abrieron camino al folk y a formas
tradicionales e indígenas de la danza. De regreso a Estados Unidos, Kelly conoció
a su esposo, José Carlos, quien es capitán de Danza Azteca. Durante los últimos
ocho años se han concentrado en enseñar las tradiciones de la danza Anáhuac a
las familias de Oregón. Kelly y su familia creen en lo divino y la fuerza
innata de cada ser humano que se fomenta a través de la danza,
independientemente de la religión, raza o color de cada persona.
Nicki
D’Amico (Prop master) is a native New Yorker who drove to Portland five years
ago on a whim and stayed. She now owns her first home, and appreciates living
in the Woodstock neighborhood. She studied theater at SUNY-Purchase and
enjoys nearly all aspects of "puttin' on a show". She is
grateful to be Prop Master for Raíz
and to be working with talented and dedicated people.
Nicki D’Amico (Encargada de
utilería) es originaria de Nueva York, llegó a Portland hace cinco años por un
capricho y se quedo a vivir. Ahora es dueña de su primer vivienda y aprecia
vivir en el barrio de Woodstock. Estudio teatro en SUNY-Purchase y disfruta de
casi todos los aspectos de construir un show. Nicki está agradecida de formar
parte de Raíz y de trabajar con gente
tan talentosa y dedicada.
Adrienne Shelnutt (Assistant
Director/Stage Manager) is very excited to join Milagro in the role of
assistant director/stage manager! Previously she worked as a costumer and
intern with the company’s touring arm. She graduated from the University of
Portland (Woo!) after studying theater, Spanish and social justice and so loves
the combination of community and theatre found here at Milagro. Adrienne has
directed The Shape of Things at UP as
well as performed in a number of shows there and can't wait to work more in
Portland theatre!
Adrienne Shelnutt (Asistente de dirección/Regidora de escena) está muy
contenta de participar como asistente de dirección y regidora de escena en
Miracle Group. Anteriormente ha hecho trabajo como interno y de vestuario en el
Teatro Milagro. Se graduó de University
of Portland después de estudiar teatro, español y justicia social. Adora la

Collin Lawson (Master
Carpenter) earned his B.A. in theatre at Lewis & Clark College, where he
acted, directed, wrote plays, built sets, and generally had a pretty good time.
Now, he is thrilled to be part of the Milagro team. You can see Collin onstage
this October and November in Theatre Vertigo’s production of Mother Courage.
Collin Lawson (Carpintero) obtuvo
su B.A en teatro en Lewis & Clark College, donde actuó, dirigió, escribió
obras, construyo escenarios y en general paso un buen tiempo. Ahora esta
encantado de formar parte del equipo en Milagro. Podrás disfrutar a Collin en
el escenario este Octubre y Noviembre en la producción para Mother Courage en el Theatre Vertigo.
Julie Rosequist (Sound Board
Operator) is from Las Vegas and is a pre-law student at Mt. Hood Community
College and actively pursuing her private pilot’s license at Gorge Winds
Aviation in the Troutdale Airport. She works full-time with Mentor Oregon and
sings 2nd soprano in the Beati Chorum Choir in NW Portland.
Julie Rosequist (Operadora de sonido) es originaria de Las Vegas y estudiante
de Derecho en Mt. Hood Community College. Al mismo tiempo se encuentra estudiando
para obtener su licencia de piloto privado en Gorge Winds Aviation en Troutdale
Airport. Trabaja tiempo completo en Mentor Oregón y es cantante de Soprano en
Beati Chorum Choir en NW Portland.
