Play in Progress: "B'aktun 13" Begins Rehearsals

Sorry Blogpost fans – I know you missed me, but I was traveling around Texas, wrapping up the tour of Duende de Lorca and busy celebrating my 50th birthday.  With age comes wisdom, they say, but the reality is an aching back and the weight of responsibility, which is why after being the last person to leave the building at 10 p.m., I was also the first person to arrive this morning at 8 a.m.

But enough about me – I know you are all just dying to know more about our new touring play for 2012!  Last night was the first rehearsal of B’aktun 13.  The cast is great.  Danny and Ajai had worked together in Duende de Lorca and they already have a great rapport, and our newest company member Tricia fit right in like a comfortable pair of socks.  Amanda Peoples, our stage manager, is amazing!  We laughed, we spoke Spanish, we spoke Mayan and we worked on rewriting the play again.  The script keeps getting tighter and tighter. Unlike Duende de Lorca, which oozed with poetic metaphors, B’aktun 13 is a race horse waiting to collide with the Mayan pantheon in a heated battle against the storm.  The team is excited and everyone is ready for the hard work ahead. Pictured here is our fearless director Matthew B. Zrebski in a very excited moment over a line rewrite with myself, the playwright. — Dañel
