Miracle Theatre Group presenta Jardín de Sueños, un obra teatral escrita por Sofia May-Cuxim, basada en texto de Pablo Jiménez y Teatro Español, dirigida por Nelda Reyes, y patrocinada por Sterling Savings Bank, Oregon Cultural Trust, National Endowment for the Arts, The Oregonian y el Consulado de México en Portland.

Imagínese lo imposible, lo magnífico, lo aterrador... Como un jardín de sueños, los cuentos populares están llenos de criaturas legendarias, que nos dirigen por los senderos del descubrimiento. Para algunos, se trata del amor; para otros, de la sabiduría. Para la joven Cristina, de escuchar su corazón y encontrar su voz. Cristina necesita de mucho apoyo puesto que está a punto de terminar la secundaria e ir a la universidad. Pero su familia se encuentra distraída con las tecnologías de la vida moderna, desde teléfonos celulares y mensajes de texto, hasta cuentas y presupuestos que los envuelven día a día. Todos ellos están demasiado ocupados para escuchar. Pero cuando Cristina entra en un mundo de sueños, se encuentra con varios personajes reconocidos del folklore latinoamericano — el jaguar, el armadillo, y la hija del sol entre otros — quienes no solo le ayudan a expresar lo que siente, sino que le dan la confianza para enfrentar su futuro. (Adecuada para edades de 5 en adelante.)

Jardín de Sueños, se realizará en español con supertítulos fáciles en ingles, del 22 de marzo al 14 de abril de 2012 en el Milagro Theatre (525 SE Stark St., Portland). Las fechas de las presentaciones son los jueves a las 7:30 p.m., los viernes y sábados a las 8 p.m., y los domingos a las 2 p.m. de la tarde. Hay un preestreno a las 7:30 p.m. jueves, el 22 de marzo; el estreno del 23 de marzo incluye una recepción gratuita ofrecedia por Cha! Taquería y Bar. Imagine the impossible, the magnificent, the terrifying ... Like a garden of dreams, folktales are filled with legendary creatures who lead us down the paths of discovery. For some, it’s about love; for others, it’s about knowledge. For young Cristina, it’s about listening to her heart and finding her voice. Cristina is about to finish high school and go to college, and she needs all the support she can get. But her family is distracted by the technology of modern life, from cell phones and text messages to bills and budgets. They are all too busy to listen. But when Cristina enters a dream world, she encounters several familiar characters from Latino folklore — the jaguar, the armadillo, and the daughter of the Sun God, among others — who not only help her speak her mind, but give her the confidence to face her future. (Appropriate for ages 5+)


Jardín de Sueños, which will be presented in Spanish with easy-to-follow supertitles in English, runs March 22 through April 14, 2012 at the Milagro Theatre (525 SE Stark St., Portland). Performances are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. There is one preview performance at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday March 22; the opening night performance on March 23 will be followed by a complimentary reception catered by Cha! Taquería and Bar. Tickets range from $15 for previews to $29 the final week of performances; there are discounts for students, seniors and groups of 15 or more.
