Free Danzón classes return to Milagro!

Come and enjoy Danzón, a popular Mexican style of dance!

Born in Cuba, in 1878, this dance is a mix of French minuette, English and Cuban dances. It arrived in Mexico around 1913. Since then, Mexicans have danced the Danzón every week in the plazas all over the country. It is an elegant kind of ballroom dance that still survives and flourishes after 134 years. Danzón is appropriate for all ages and all physical conditions.

Kenya Hyde-Marquez will teach a bililngual 8-week class designed to build your confidence to step out onto the dance floor. You will enjoy learning about the structure of Danzón, steps, secret language and styles. This series of workshops is open to newcomers and experienced dancers alike. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to bring a partner.

Classes are on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m., February 26 - April 23 (no class March 26) in the Zócalo of El Centro Milagro at 525 SE Stark St., Portland.
